Post good ninja games?
on: 10/01/2012 06:10 AM

Hi, I'm new :D
Really I have come here to ask your advice on what PS3 games are out there which will give me some modern version of TENCHU.
Probably like many of you, I remember the Original PS games & ever since then I always long for a great Ninja Stealth game.
I live in Japan, so I have access to JP games that might not be released overseas, but i dont really know which are the good ones - are there any worth checking out?
I should probably mention that Ninja Gaiden is not a good substitute for me, its far to arcade like & I'm not a fan of that series at all. That said, i'm not adverse to trying something else thats action or strategy based if its worth checking out?
My thinking is that people on the Tenchu forum probably have similar tastes & some good recommendations.

Thanks!

PS3 doesn't have any modern version of Tenchu.Maybe MetalGearSOlid 4 but it doesn't really feel like Tenchu.Well i suggest you to buy PSVita and get SHinobido 2 Revenge of Zen which is just like Tenchu,if u have the money ofcourse :)

Red Ninja is an okay game, just the lead female needs to put on more clothes >_<. MGS is also a good one (I never played it, but I heard it's good). Shinobi is another good one, but I don't remember if it leans onto Stealth or not. The game that is Closest to Tenchu is Red Ninja, but it's for PS2 and it does not have a sequel.

Wrong, the closest game to Tenchu is SHinobido. They are almost the same. And Shinobido has a sequel but for Playstation Vita not PS3 as i said above.
Red Ninja is a really bad game that tried to copy Tenchu and it ended up terrible.

*Shrugs* why do you think I didn't judge Shinobido? I heard that the stealth isn't as heavily put on as Tenchu. I have never played it in my life, and the closest I have gotten to having something of it is my sister's copy of the OST for the first game. Red Ninja is okay, believe me. It's utterly hard to control Kurenai but I looked past that. It may have been a copy cat game to Tenchu, but it is an okay game. Remember, Shinobido never came out in the U.S. I do not have access to Ebay anymore due to personal reasons, so I am kind of lucky I was able to play the first PSP Tenchu. Sure, I will have access to it now that the second one will come out to the US, but I won't be able to get a VITA right away. This is my personal view, I am sorry if I am probably wrong in some way possible.

I'm just saying from my personal experience, so it doesn't mean that I am trying to reveal facts. Tenchu is a one of a kind type of game, there are hardly any games out there that have common elements to it. (Splinter Cell and MGS do not count.) this is what makes the game superior in it's own way possible.

Well, Shinobido is by the original creators of Tenchu and the whole feel is pretty much the same. There is a slightly bigger focus on action, than stealth, but when you play it, it feels like you're playing Tenchu with new characters IMO.

Never played Shinobi, but if I'm not mistaken, that game is even more arcade than Ninja Gaiden.

But I agree with xScarletValkyriexx, Tenchu (and Shinobido and Red Ninja) seems to be the only ninja game where ninja actually act and play like ninja, with stealth. Most other games that feature ninja are either action/arcade, or fighting games.
Ah, if only Assassin's Creed 3 would take place in Japan... *sigh*

Yes, you do have a point. I guess I could say that the closest game outside of Acquire out there would be Red Ninja despite the difficulty to play as Kurenai. Like I said, I never played Shinobido, I've only seen videos on it. If I did, I would have mentioned why it is similar to Tenchu, and how it is. But, I chose not to since I don't even know what I would like or dislike of the game.

I am glad you do. I tried looking for games like it, and it was to no avail. So, the gaming industry does does not seem to create video games within those elements period. I wonder why, though. Yeah, Shinobi's more arcadeish. It's been 2 years since I've played it so I hardly remember it off the top of my own head. You are incredibly right about that. And they would sadly have to reboot AC to put it in Japan, but they could make it where the main character could be part Japanese, or something along those lines.

Modern ninja games?
Can't think there's one yet..
Metal gear solid might be a good choice. I've played all the saga from ps to ps3. It do have that stealth play. But in my point of view, you won't get that ninja 'feel'.

If you have ps3, try batman arkham asylum n arkham city. Trust me! You will get that ninja 'feel'. It has tons of ninja-like gadget, stealth gameplay and modern ninja 'feel'.

I haven't tried splinter cell yet. I'm also trying to find a modern ninja games or close-like.

Simple, the market for those kind of games isn't big enough. You can see it with Ninja Gaiden. After that came Shinobi and more recently that other arcade-style ninja game (can't remember the name), which was even more over the top and didn't take itself seriously.
So for the ninja genre: arcade > stealth, unfortunately...

That is a little sad that it's more arcadey than anything. Well thought through though. Just wish that other companies would make some games like Tenchu. Not like copycat ones but, something similar in a way or two.
